Enjoy Canyon Views and Hilly Walks Around Borger

I have learned that when I say, "Texas Panhandle"--that many people immediately envision the miles of straight flat land often seen by travelers along major highways and the interstate. Unless travelers do some diligent research they will miss out on true, natural beauty of our TP; such as Alibates, McBride Canyon, or the canyon views from Lake Meredith (where we still have water in some areas:-) ).

More local and less renowned is the canyon horizon and views from the Borger Ambassador Inn headed towards Pampa and the Stinnett Hwy from North Borger. The starting point for the following measured hilly walks is Lorene's Kitchen.

I am close to losing 30lbs since November. In part, thanks to my 85 year old Coach, My Mother, Lorene.
Use of the rebounder and exercise videos, mostly Leslie Sansone's, and occasional Richard Simmons. Then, I hit a weight stalemate. Very frustrating indeed.

I started measuring walks from 1 mi, then I would add more distance, then I started adding hills, then steeper inclines. The stalemate is broken! Yippee.

It has been a LOT of work. But, by challenging myself I am now doing walks I would have never thought I could do. I learned to start from my point of capability and challenge myself just a wee bit more. Every time. So, now I have done my first 4 and 5 mile canyon walk climbs. Following are some of the walks I measured.

From Lorene's it is .7 miles to the turn to

If you walk on up to Riverview Baptist Church its another .3 miles. So, that alone could be a 2 mile round trip beginner walk with moderate hill challenge.

If you continue walking Old Stinnett Highway to Chickasaw from the Riverview church turn it is a full mile, more challenging with hilly inclines. (From Lorene's to Chickasaw it is almost 2 miles)

If you turn around and head back from Chickasaw you will get in a good 4 mile walk with variable hilly inclines. It definitely gets the heart rate up. Following are some photos along this path.

When you get to Chickasaw you have the opportunity to challenge yourself with a steep incline.

Go South on 1559 up the hill past the yellow curb markers. that is exactly .5 miles. By the time you return to Lorene's it is just shy of 5 miles.

It gets easier. Sometimes the last mile of the way back I rely on past coaches in my head. There's Akila saying "Put one foot in front of the other". Bob Gravenstuk, saying--"Its just a little farther". I hear my mother saying, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me". I focus on making it to the next landmark. In a couple of weeks this walk will be too easy.
Flat country. Say What?

Location, Location, Location

Do you have the Lorene's Chili Relleno craving? No worry, fly in, walk over or catch a ride from the airport or one of us.

The other day Lorene was telling me that she had two tables of guests that had flown into our Hutchinson County Airport in order to eat at her restaurant. It seems that when some people get that Chili Relleno craving they'll figure out how to get here, one way or another. I had not before considered the advantage of being walking distance to our county airport.

Lorene's Mexican Kitchen, Formerly the Village Restaurant
Lorene's Facebook page is maintained by my Sister,
Ms Shelia Melton who also manages the front of the house.
The kitchen is managed by my brothers:
 Max and Scotti Richardson.
Scotti's Wife, Michelle, helps mostly at mid day.
Mother, "Lorene" is now 85 years old and generally supervises/works lunches and helps Shelia if and when she needs it. I love just dropping by when they are busy and seeing if I can help out or at least say "Howdy" to some customers.
Lorene has 3 daughters, Patti, Shelia, and Suzi (me) and 3 sons, Max, Shane (now deceased) and Scotti.

Now, if you happen to want to stay overnight, give the Borger Ambassador Inn a call (my favorite American Inn in Borger). They offer very nice rates for guests from the Hutchinson County Airport. The airport may have a loaner/crew car available for your use.

So, there it is, or here we are. Enjoy our Texas Hospitality created by businesses supporting businesses to provide the best in customer service.

An AmeriCAN, Working With an Inn located in America

Continued

I am an American living in Borger, TX. One person in a small, all American city, in a great big universe. I call attention to the fact that I am American, (A Mer I Can)solely because I can. It is still a free country. AmeriCAN. No one owns a copyright to this precious term that describes so many of us.

However, I want to make it clear that I enjoy meeting folks of all nationalities, races, cultures, religions and gender. We are blessed at the BAI to have the friendliest and most well behaved guests I have met anywhere. ...Yes, I have worked a few other places, and I have quite a bit of hospitality experience. It's just that I have a "thing" about any entity thinking they can copyright terms such as American and Inn. It just doesn't work that way.

In yesterday's post at Share-Therapy.com , I discussed my "Loving Myself" day off. (If you don't understand the concept join me at Share-Therapy.com).That post
ended with a solo walk in the canyons, returning totally amazed by the insight that an hour alone in the canyons can bring.

Covered in dust, I headed to the nearby Borger Ambassador Inn (BAI) , also an American Inn, because, well--it is an inn located in AMERICA.

I am currently blessed to be a Secret Agent at the BAI, so, I have privileges:-). To complete my "Love Myself" day, I showered, in the nice, large pool shower/restroom, heated the sauna, swam several laps in pleasantly heated indoor pool, soothed my well exercised body (Rebounding, 3 mile walk--Leslie Sansone, Canyon walk, and swim) in the Hot tub, then relaxed/meditated (and mediated with myself) in the sauna.
